Outfit Post: Grey and Yellow and a Dinosaur

IMG_1573

Well hello again!  It's been a moment.  Lately my closet has been feeling a little tired and the days have suddenly gotten shorter, and that has coupled with a sort of strange malaise that's made me feel allergic to any activity that doesn't involve watching 30 Rock, knitting and eating grilled cheese sandwiches... which has left me feeling under-inspired and cranky.

Finally last weekend I repaired some thrifted clothes that had been sitting in the pile for a long time, along with some of Lumberjack's shirts and coats that had lost buttons and needed fixing, and that has helped to kick my closet mojo back up.  This skirt didn't need fixing, but after joyfully finding it for $16 at a vintage store in Ballard a few weeks ago, I brought it home, took it out of the bag and felt underwhelmed.  Was it too tween?  Too suede-skirty?  Too dirty-looking?  Wrong color?  Have I lost all sense of direction, sartorially?

And so it sat, mocking me.

Then, last night as I was about to go to bed, I threw off my charcoal cardigan and it landed on top of the skirt.  And to my surprise, it didn't look ugly anymore.  It looked full of promise.

So today I decided to do my take on the whole grey/yellow phenomenon.  Maybe I'm a little late to the party, but at least I came, and wearing a kickass dinosaur shirt at that.  And with any luck, it's a sign of more exciting outfits to come.
