Th new Knitty is up, and my most desired project is this dude, called Flappy Flounder. Fish in movies and as stuffed animals make me go "D'awww," and revert to my inner 6-year-old. That scene in Amélie, where her mother pours her goldfish, bowl and all, into the river? It kills me.
Other favorites:
Zingiber. A simple pattern with a detail reminiscent of delicate vintage cable sweaters. I think there's a skein of coral Madelinetosh in my stash that would look awesome in this pattern.
Verdant. I think the technique used in this pattern is really cool, and the end product is beautiful. I have to say there's very little chance I would realistically knit this, but I appreciate the design nonetheless!
Omelet, although I hope I'm not the only one who finds the idea of putting a frying pan on a piece of lace deeply unsettling.
Amiga. I love the shape, especially the side profile, which has a lovely slant to it. It looks like a great sweater to wear with a t-shirt and jeans!
Overall, an issue with a little bit for everyone. I think Knitty often has an emphasis on technique or novelty, which isn't always my thing, but they provide a wide range of patterns - for free! - that manages to appeal to everyone from beginners to experts, process knitters to product knitters. I'm definitely queuing up those socks, and I think I might have to make the fishie!
