New Studio!

A little over a month ago, I talked to my dad about making me a cutting table for my studio.  The school has these great tables that are perfect for patternwork and cutting, and I sneakily measured the height so that he could make one about the same size.  I didn't have a ton of space to work with - my new studio is in the second bedroom of our little apartment, and I wanted to make sure that I still had enough floorspace to move around comfortably.

The table that he made ended up being about 40 inches by 60 inches, and 38 inches tall.  He used plywood, foam board to keep the whole thing light, and two layers of corkboard for easy pinning.  He covered it with natural-colored canvas, which makes it easy to see markings on patterns.  He made the legs out of Sonotubes, which are relatively inexpensive and easily adjustable.  I hung an old sarong over the bottom of the table like a bedskirt, and now I have a hidey-place for my boot collection and the bag of sewing supplies that I take back and forth to school.

It's already made my studio a lot more functional - I was able to clear off my Ikea desk too, so now I have places to sit or stand - what a concept!  It's really nice to have a flat, clean space to work on projects, and I see myself using my studio a lot more now that it's set up like this.

Thanks, Dad!
